Which SOLE footbed do I require for my footwear?
Application plays a role and the amount of room inside the footwear needs to be considered.
All the footbed models are designed to provide a similar level of support and have the same overall shape. There are 2 series of Footbeds – ‘SofTec’ and ‘SLIM’ which will provide a SOLE for most applications and types of footwear.
The SOLE ULTRA has the most volume and will fit a typical pair of trainers or walking boots or other footwear with a removable insole or similar room inside to a trainer. Use this as a guide to judge how much room is in your tighter fitting footwear.
SOLE SofTec Series – SOLE Ultra & Regular
Have a SofTec cushioning layer and a variable density EVA base
SOLE Ultra - For use in a trainer or walking boot or any other footwear with similar room in the shoe. Provides full support and maximum cushioning
Specs – 3.2 mm of SofTec cushioning material – moisture wicking microfiber top sheet. Thickness at the toe is 4mm
Typically used in footwear that requires high impact cushioning in addition to the support – Trainers – Walking boots – Hiking Boots – Snowboard Boots – Some Ski Boots – Some models of Mountain Biking shoes – Roomier work boots or Military Boots.
SOLE Regular – Most universal fit – Will fit most footwear that is a tighter fitting than a typical trainer. Provides full support and cushioning
Specs – 1.6 mm of SofTec cushioning material – moisture wicking microfiber top sheet. Thickness at the toe is 3mm
1.6mm less cushioning than the Ultra may not seem like much but is significant to the overall volume when dealing with full foot contact support.
Use in footwear that requires impact cushioning and support – Tighter fitting Trainers, walking boots, hiking Boots – Tighter fitting Snowboard Boots – Fits most Ski Boot – Fits most Cycling shoes – Tighter fitting work boots or Military Boots, roomier court shoes, Dress or Casual shoes.
SOLE Slim Series – SLIM Sport
– No Cushioning material and has a single density EVA base
SOLE Slim Sport - Fits very tight footwear and has less overall volume than the SofTec series footbeds. Thickness at the toe is only 2mm.
For use in very tight footwear such as low volume football boots, tight road cycling shoes, tight ski boots, dress shoes or any other footwear with no additional room.
My insole is glued in!
Which SOLE footbed do I need now?
If the insole is THIN and FLAT and glued in with a very small piece of foam glued down at the arch and you either can’t remove it easily, or you would simply like to leave it in place.
Options:
- If the shoe is fairly roomy, the SOLE Regular or Casual can be placed on top of the flat insole.
- The SOLE Slim Sport or Casual is another option if there is not much additional room inside.
If the insole in the shoe is NOT thin and flat but is glued in, it will have to come out if you want to put anything else in the shoe. Remove the shoe laces and start to gently prise the insole out, working from the heel to the toe, being careful not to leave bits of foam rubber stuck to the shoe. Take it slow and carefully, the glue is often not that strong and it will come out in tact.
Tip – sometimes using the end of a ruler or other narrow flat scraper can help.
